I was thinking about the performances I've had throughout my life in musicals where romantic scenes are acted out. It gave me the idea for this song and I thought "Surely, a real relationship has formed on stage before". So, I wanted to create a song that told that story and creatively captured the intimate moment between a couple realizing that their chemistry goes "beyond the scene" as the song says.
