Story Behind The Song
The guitar groove came first. It suggested a sad folk lyric, and we had several friends from the prior generation approaching death, thoughts of whom brought the lyric to me one afternoon.
Song Description
Simple vocal guitar setting for a lament about the immediate, numb feeling of loss after suddenly losing a close friend. The spare instrumentation is to isolate the singer and create dead space around the vocal, to increase the sense of despair.

Lyrics
Only Monday
It was only Monday they called to say your light was gone
It didn?t matter to the blades of grass on my perfect lawn
And the song birds sang more brightly still
And the brilliant maples glowed
And the sweetness that surrounded me
Was sharper than a sword
Only Monday separates you from me
Only one day?and eternity
Only Monday
Old soul traveling will I see you again
Will I hear your wise old voice rising in the wind
Will the redbuds bursting lift me up
In the coming spring
Or is there nothing in this world
Can make me want to sing
Only Monday separates you from me
Only one day?and eternity
Only Monday
Maybe a week or a month or year
Will make some purpose clear
But I have only Monday.
It was only Monday they called to say your light was gone
