Story Behind The Song
This song was inspired by alternate tunings on my guitar, the slogan "God is Still Speaking" which has been adopted by the United Church of Christ, and my life-long desire to write a song that sounds something like the Girl from Ipanema.
Song Description
Philosophical musings about God, the universe, comets and us; on top of a latin jazz groove on acoustic guitar, with a solo on Spanish guitar.

Lyrics
THE YEAR OF THE COMET
It hung in the air like a non sequitur
God?s comma in the August sky
A hint of conversation continuing
I accepted but heard no reply
If God be loyal ice and constant light
Or if at least it shows his weathered hand
There?s comfort in the streaked and spangled night
Those signs he may have dreamed if not have planned
A comet disappears
But come it will come it will
It may wait a thousand years
But come it will come it will
Exactly when they say
Precisely to the day
Come it will
Then there is the tragic weatherman
Waiving Zeuslike his clouds and sun
As if there was anything we could really do
To curve the hard-paved course we run
And what will the comet on its return
Know of you and me a millennium gone?
Shall we then make love and sip our tea
Or should we, comet like, move on?
A comet disappears
But come it will come it will
It may wait a thousand years
But come it will come it will
Exactly when they say
Precisely to the day
Come it will
Some see no hand or eye
In clockwork patterns in the sky
But others say it proves a force benign
Like words that ring because they rhyme
A comet disappears
But come it will come it will
It may wait a thousand years
But come it will come it will
Exactly when they say
Precisely to the day
Come it will
