High Wire (Ian Cox/Carrie Martin)

Story Behind The Song

Ian Cox (www.broadjam.com/IanCox) wrote this beautiful song... while it was still in it's formative "should I bother to continue with this?" phase, I listened and heard something in the quiet spaces between his lyrics... we tossed some ideas back and forth. We recorded and Ian mixed this in about one week of round-the-clock overseas Mp3 attachments. We explored several directions, from cinematic to country, but this last delicate recording proved to be the sound we were both looking for. Ian generously gives me co-writing credits but he had the vision and work ethic to keep this lovely song alive. Thanks, Ian.

High Wire

Well that's just the way it is
You wake up in the morning and you know
People 'round may disagree
shake their heads and say it isn't so
Well I look out my window
See the sun is shining in the sky
And I know, I know, I know, the reason why

Sometimes you can see the words
Clear as day and written on your wall
And sometimes you can hear them,
Everywhere you go the words are gonna call
And sometimes there's a simple sign of love
that always makes you want to cry
And I know, I know, I know, the reason why

CHORUS
If I call (if i call to you my love)
Will you comfort me
If the wind blows
Will you make it stop (will you hear in the wind)
If I'm alone (when you're alone on the high wire)
Will you come to me (all my words)
If I'm acting up on high wire (i'm calling you)
Don't let me drop

And sometimes there a message you keep hearing
Like it's carried on the wind
And sometimes there's the feeling that you get
Just before the show begins
Then the curtain parts, the music starts
and your heart is beating into time
And you know, you know, you know, the reason why

CHORUS
So if I call (if i call to you)
Will you comfort me (please come my love)
If the wind blows
Will you make it stop (do you hear in the wind when you're alone)
If I'm alone (on the high high high wire)
Will you come to me
If I'm acting up on high wire (i'm calling you)
Don't let me drop
