Song Description
This comes from the "Live" CD, "Black & White" recorded back on 9/11/71 in Kansas City, MO at Cowtown Ballroom. It is the only surviving recording of Chet playing performing "live" The album showcases his varied songwriting, vocals, guitar work, piano playing and harmonica performances. It is a raw, gritty analog recording with all kinds of peaks and valleys, but the music and lyrics always shine through. Enjoy!

VERSE 1
I tried to ride a train today
But, they said that it does not run
The old man at the end of the line
Cried like he had lost his own son
CHORUS
The trains have stopped running
And the bums have stopped bumming
The clicking wheels gave way to better deals
The clicking wheels roll on by
VERSE 2
I tried to fly a plane today
Bought my ticket at the gate
They put me through a "pirate check"
It was a very paranoid state
They put me through a microscope
Checked me for drugs and guns
They did a thorough check on me
To see if I was "The One"
CHORUS
The trains have stopped running
And the bums have stopped bumming
The clicking wheels gave way to better deals
The clicking wheels roll on by
The clicking wheels gave way to better deals
The clicking wheels roll on by
