Lyrics
Walking In The Woods Today
by Chris Blanton
Walking in the woods today I found myself again.
It was still cold just before noon,
when the fast crunch of small gravel
led to the silence of a leaf-covered trail.
As if someone turned up the volume
melodies of chirping birds mixed with
rhythmic clicking of smiling squirrels.
Nearing a small stream
I heard the water
calling for me to come closer.
I actually smiled as I left the trail
following rock and root
to a place where three cool falls
feeding birch and magnolia
enhanced the natural symphony.
And I remembered that twenty minutes of peace
is worth more than twenty years of production.
Green ferns and lingering yellow leaves
nodded with agreement
and strangely the browns too.
As the silence of a leaf-covered trail
gave way to the now slower crunch of small gravel
I smiled and even chuckled.
Walking in the woods today I found myself again.
