Story Behind The Song
I wanted to write a new Christmas song that hinted at a familiar old hymn. This is a beautiful ballad that frames the image of the manger.
Song Description
The song is told in third person, as if a bystander on the night of Christ's birth. It's a recounting of the familiar story of what Mary and Joseph went through leading up to Jesus' birth that night in the stable. The song would be BEAUTIFUL with strings/orchestra, particularly because you can orchestrate it in a way to highlight the middle Easter flat second nuances.

Lyrics
Away In A Manager (At the Crossroads of Strangers)
(c) 2009 Dana C. Lamb
Verse One
She believed the unbelievable
She cradled the incredible
She immersed in unimaginable
And she never walked away
He shielded her from the shame
Made blessings from the blame
For Yehoshua's blessed name
In an unthinkable place
Chorus
Away in a manager
At the crossroads of strangers
In an ordinary cattle pen
Strewn with gold and frankincense
Lay the pardon of humanity
Incarnated infancy
We swaddled a Savior
Away in a manger
Verse Two
He rose above the ridicule
Showed courage when the world was cruel
Never considered himself a fool
And he never walked away
She embraced the embarrassing
Joyful in the journey
Liberated through labor
To Salvation Day
