Story Behind The Song
I used to work for a big corporation, but then got a taste of being a musician full-time one summer, and after traveling for a few weeks, seeing a bunch of new territory, calling my own shots, and playing gigs across the Northwest, realized there was no going back.
Song Description
There's a freedom being on the road as a musician that keeps you from having to do what your boss tells you to do, and there's a realization that you're missing out on a lot of life when you're always doing someone else's bidding.

Lyrics
A travelin' man without a plan
That's when I'm at my best
Though I never really knew it 'til last summer
That's when I tiptoed to the open road
like a fledgeling from the nest
And ever since then, I've been on the run
(chorus) Every time I turn the wheel
'Round a new corner
I see something I've never seen before
And every time I do the things
That other people say I oughtta
Seems I miss out on what life has in store
Now there was a time when the city life was my consistent scene
9 to 5 in a static daily groove
Now my route, well, it's anything but what I'd call routine
I'm just not happy unless I'm on the move
(chorus)
Now the broken white line, it's a friend of mine, but if I had my druthers
The back-roads and the byways would be my choice
Hey, I used to make my pay doin' what they say, keepin' my opinions smothered
But now my job is finding my own voice
(chorus 2x)
