Story Behind The Song
Dirk came home really late one night when he knew his wife, Sue, had a gig to get to. She had fed, bathed, and put the kids to bed. She had laid out a supper for him (which had gotten cold of course.)When he finally stepped into the foyer, he looked at the table and said scornfully, "Sue! You forgot to make a vegetable!" The rest is history, as was this marriage eventually.
Song Description
This song asserts the right of a woman to do what she loves and is good at, which is at odds with conventional roles.

Lyrics
Housewife from Hell
Words & Music by Elly Wininger
You may think that I should be at home
Foldin' laundry 'till the kids are grown.
Seen that look you give the kitchen floor
Every time I walk out the door.
Don't you know, can't you tell?
I want to do what I do well.
Guess you married the Housewife from Hell.
I love my home and my family,
But there's so much music inside of me.
Before you can say 'six-string guitar'
Got it in the back seat of my car.
Don't you know, can't you tell?
I want to do what I do well.
Guess you married the Housewife from Hell.
Please don't holler, don't put me down.
I'm not out spending money or running around.
Don't let this come between me and you,
'Cause a woman's gotta what she's gotta do.
Don't you know, can't you tell?
I want to do what I do well.
Guess you married the Housewife from Hell.
