Story Behind The Song

On a night flight from my hometown of Madison, Wisconsin through Minneapolis and on to Los Angeles, the lights of Minneapolis got me thinking about our total dependance on energy consumption. By the time the flight reached LA, I pretty much had the song roughed out. If Minneapolis was shocking from the air at night, the lights of LA were completely mind numbing.

Song Description

This song gives a birdseye nighttime view of Los Angeles (or any large city) as the lyrics take the listener on a night flight to point out the miles and miles of endless lights and consuption spread out below. The chorus rings out with a warning that our energy consuption will get the best of us one day. The song is sadly prophetic, having been written months before the oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico in the spring of 2010.
