Story Behind The Song
My friend Doris Wood re-enlisted in the Army at a later stage in life. She was born in Alabama and was in several foster families before I met her. She is an extremely talented artist who sketches portraits for profit. When she enlisted, the army immediately sent her to Iraq.
Song Description
As my friend was deployed to Iraq, my fear for her safety began to mount. She is a conscious and tender woman and I had a hard time imagining her in a war zone. I am proud of her and yet scared for her safety.

Lyrics
I know your life has been tough;
without the privileges most people get;
Yet you love this land enough
To fight for those you've never me;
You put your dreams off to the side,
To make sure this country is safe;
You define American pride
For the land of the brave;
So when you're thinkin 'bout home
Staring at the desert;
When you're thinkin bout home;
Trudging through the sand,
You'll be sending out a live wire
Through the cross-fire
That carries you back
To the life you knew;
When you're thinkin bout home,
I'll be thinkin bout you.
You inspire me every day,
To realize how lucky we are;
A phoenix rising up and away
Landing in our hearts.
Flying free through the space and time,
I pray for you each and every night,
For peace this world may some day find
And you won't have to fight
