Story Behind The Song
My wife's father is Serbian and we were traveling to the Balkans to meet some of her family for the very first time. We arrived in Belgrade on the eve of the year's biggest football match and the town was alive all night. We did actually awake to find our license plates gone from our rental car.

Lyrics
Verse1:
Sleep won't come
I hear mosquito drone
Through the open window
I'm wide awake
In the hypercharged dark
This night could ignite
With a single spark
Dog pack howl
Echos through concrete canyons
As Gypsies glide like ghosts
Through the shadows.
Chorus:
I head the wild heart of Belgrade
Beating into the neon sky
I feel the life flow like current
From Tesla's soul to mine.
Verse 2:
Local punks stole
The plates off our rental car
It's from Croatia, yeah,
We won't get far
I end up staring
At a painting of Karageorge
Second floor
Of the police station
I get a cop
With a face of slate
Don't know why she's so pissed
I guess I made her late
Chorus:
I head the wild heart of Belgrade
Beating into the neon sky
I feel the life flow like current
From Tesla's soul to mine.
Inside St. Sava
Dark silence above
While candles
Shadow dance below
I can feel the heart
Beating in mystery
The true heart of Belgrade
Chorus:
I head the wild heart of Belgrade
Beating into the neon sky
I feel the life flow like current
From Tesla's soul to mine.
I hear the wild heart of Belgrade x3
