Story Behind The Song
I wrote this song to explore and understand my relationship with alcohol. It's hard to have honest conversations with yourself when you're not sober, and it's harder still to will yourself to have those conversations when you are sober. Ultimately, the message of the song is summed up at the end of the chorus with the lyric "play life with the hand that you're dealt and decide if you're ready to die."
In essence, you can either do the best you can do with what you have, the same as everybody else on the planet, or you can give up and throw it all away, and only you can make that choice. I made my choice.
Song Description
Flush explores a concept about being literally outside of yourself desperately trying to talk to yourself, but the one version of you is sober and the other version of you is not. As much as you try to get the message across to yourself, the message is struggling to get through.

Lyrics
blink twice if you understand me
bite back if you're feeling small
to your left you'll see the life you longed for
can you read the writing on the wall
blink twice but the vision is faded still
she speaks the language of a long dead god
there's no salvation for a broken heart these days
no restitution for the firing squad
never mind the noise outside
it's only you and me tonight
every imperfection can be seen
when you drag it out into the light
never mind the noise outside
it's only you and me tonight
play life with the hand that you're dealt
and decide if you're ready to die
blink twice if the high has you locked in place
don't scream just save your voice
to the back of the room is an old routine
long forgotten but you've made your choice
another night on your own
another night in your head
another drink to make the clock tick over
any other escape
would be a welcome break?from the monotony
of living sober
never mind the noise outside
it's only you and me tonight
every imperfection can be seen
when you drag it out into the light
never mind the noise outside
it's only you and me tonight
play life with the hand that you're dealt
and decide if you're ready to die
blink twice but the vision is faded still
she speaks the language of a long dead god
there's no salvation for a broken heart these days
no restitution for the firing squad
never mind the noise outside
it's only you and me tonight
every imperfection can be seen
when you drag it out into the light
never mind the noise outside
it's only you and me tonight
play life with the hand that you're dealt
and decide if you're ready to die
