Story Behind The Song
I used to work as a sailor on board merchant ships for a couple of years. Always had my guitar with me and this song I wrote on board a car-carrier, somewhere on the Indian Ocean, on a journey from Japan to Finland.

Lyrics
LONELY ON THE SEA IS A SAILOR'S LIFE
Tekst en muziek Jean-Paul Steenmans (P. Boness - SABAM AII15499)
REFR:
Lonely on the sea is a sailor's life
The wind and the water and sometimes a wife
The guys and the whisky and his good old knife
Lonely on the sea is a sailor's life
Handsome but lonely he crosses the sea
Looking for a place where it's nice to be
He's searching for a home where he can stay
And maybe a woman to give his love away
REFR
When he has found a place where it's nice to stay
And a beautiful girl to give his love away
Then he has a home where he can be
But his real home will always remain at sea
REFR
So after a while he has to run away
Go searching for another place to stay
Another home, another wife,
'cause lonely on the sea is a sailor's life
REFR
This little song that I'm singing today
Just think it over when I'm going away
It's just a song but it's reality
A real sailor's heart belongs to the sea
