Lyrics

Ay yo, I spit these bars cause I'm at the end of my rope
like I may self-destruct, I'm hoping against hope
you can reach through this digital code and feel ya' man
throw me a lifeline if you feel you can, and listen-
with your third eye, heart and mind engaged
and tell me: do you feel the least bit enraged
at what's going on out here?
Understatement of the century to say something's WRONG out here
I watched- shit unfold in New Orleans
after a- few more scenes, it's clear that the government said
"you poor fiends are unimportant, so good luck and good day,
should've left the city"- but could they?
These are human beings.. they struggle to eat
they don't vacation in the hills on a summer retreat
the faces, though mixed, overwhelmingly Black
money, resources, they overwhelmingly lack...
So they became so-called refugees
with the makeshift signs and their cries of "help, please"
If a flood had struck Beverly Hills,
would ANYONE have spent five days clinging to their windowsills?
Small baby- too weak to scream,
stares at her daddy with eyes that seem to be in a dream,
he stares back, that's all he has to give
cause the truth is, he doesn't know how long that she's gonna live
a grandmother sits, all alone
disabled, in a sea of people, she's on her own
separated from her son and daughter,
needs her insulin but fears that the two of them are underwater
smell of bodies, both dead and alive
fill the nostrils of those now just trying to survive
and even with everything gone-
people re-unite, revise, rebuild, revitalize and MOVE ON..
And I hope it shocks the nation
the situation, less American than Haitian,
it's fucked up but maybe we understand
just a little more, how it feels to live in a plundered land
what's the bigger disgrace,
the slow response, or that the levees failed in the first place?
They're blaming Negin
but as far as I could tell, the man was damn near beggin'
for the Army Corps of Engineers
to come in, to fix the walls, to parlay the fears,
and then there came the Governor
asked the president, a so-called "fellow southerner"
what about a contingency plan from FEMA?
Real time, agressive response? That would seem a-
propriate, but it was all turned down
and so, New Orleans was flooded and burned down.
The cause IS political
for ANY type support, allegiance be critical;
they're both on the wrong side,
consequently, thousands of lives were ruined and people died!
So here's what I'm wonderin'..
are you tired of the blunderin'?
is your heart rate thunderin'?
Well, Bush plans to stay, and he isn't gonna run again!
For GOD'S SAKE- what is it gonna take
before the people say "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH", and make
this government accountable?
The task is monumental, but not insurmountable...
but it all comes down to YOU
only so much that Nyambezi can really do
holla at your crew, and your family too,
call, and stay on the line till you get through
to your representatives, whichever you can reach
DEMAND that they start hearings to IMPEACH
and don't worry 'bout the VP
cause he's going as well, so criminal, callous and greedy!
Do it for the people who fled
their submerged city, for the dying, for the dead,
for the soldiers, the greiving parents, for the trees
for every living thing on the land and in the seas,
do it for the displaced workers, the kids left behind
all the innocents pulled out of a security line,
I'm damn near cryin'- it's time to act,
America.. CAN WE TAKE OUR MUTHAFUCKIN COUNTRY BACK?
