On Fire/ Many Are the Waters/ Flying Away

Story Behind The Song

Written originally on a Wurly piano, I always had the idea that this would be a great Clapton-esque guitar song. Some time later, when I was living in Brazil, I played it for my friend Fabio Barbuy, who loves Eric Clapton. He immediately "got" my idea, picked up his guitar and the arrangement was practically done, then and there.

Song Description

Religious wars, disputes between sects - all over the same Eternal One. What could be more ludicrous? All paths lead to the feet of the One.

Lyrics

1) Who has bet the winner?
Who receives the prize?
This is how we orchestrate our lives
Through all the pain and suffering
We shake 'em down to size
Insisting that we know the answer Why

Chorus:
But, many are the waters
Many are the forms
Many are the ways to get back Home

2) The reasons for the fighting
Insisting that we're right
Frightened by our ignorance we flee
We flee the light you offer
The Love we really need
Thirsting, though we are, we fail to see

Repeat Chorus
