The Heart of our Lives ©2006 Rob Holzer
Written by: Rob Holzer
Sunlight crawls through a sliver of her hand-made drapes,
Pretty mamma opens her eyes,
she gathers up the babies and starts the morning routine,
and from their bed daddy smiles.
Their in the heart of their lives for awhile.
They think he's sleeping so they all sneak into the room.
The boy can't contain a laughing grin.
He jumps on his father, mamma and sister right behind
and from their bed they smile,
they're in the heart of their lives for awhile.
Can't they see, that the world's going crazy right outside.
And it seems to me, that even if the world's gone mad,
what seems more sad is all the people with these moments all around them,
who never see the forest for the trees.
So many different little things try to pull us in deep.
Distract us from the truth.
If this world would give us just a minute to breathe,
we'd all walk the last mile,
into the heart of our lives, for awhile.
Can't they see, that the world's going crazy right outside.
And it seems to me, that even if the world's gone mad,
what seems more sad is all the people, with these moments all around them,
who never see the forest for the trees.
You search your life for meaning,
the grail off in the distance,
elusively out of reach.
Well its all just an illusion -
an amusing diversion.
And the ones you hold close,
are sometimes, the ones you know least.
I know songs like these come a dollar to the pound,
but I'll sing them just the same,
I sing to remember all I have to call home,
and one day I'll smile and say,
I was in the heart of my life for awhile.
Yeah I'll smile and say, the heart of my life for awhile.
Won't you sing along?
It was the heart of our lives, for awhile.
