CO-WRONGING (duet with Jerry Spencer)

Story Behind The Song

Inspired by an onstage anecdote from songwriter Tim Panyard, who was telling an anecdote at a songwriter round (at Douglas Corner in Nashville, TN) before he and his collaborator (Justin Case)were about to perform one of their tunes. Another writer on stage said over the mic, "That's co-writing!" Of course, we took the opposite angle.

Song Description

This is the answer to those who wonder what it's like trying to fit square musical peg into a round hole during the act of songwriting collaboration.

(verse)
A--Now you and me, we're supposed to be songwriting partners in crime,
B--Well how come you sit there for hours on end and leave it up to me to think of all the good lines?
A--Hmm, yeah, but if they're all such good lines, how come none of them ever rhyme?
A & B--Seems like every time we get together for a little co-writing...

(Chorus)
A --Uh B --Oh
A & B--We're co-wronging...
A--I'm still waiting for you to come up with at least one good I-dear...
A & B-- Cooperating, it's a beautiful thing, B-- but I don't see you doing any of that around here...
A & B--Now this may be a partnership that we both don't belong in...
A & B--We ain't co-wri-e-i-e-i-e-i-e-iting, we're co-wronging.

(verse)
A--Now, you ain't no Lennon, B--Well, you ain't no McCartney, A--Yeah, well you are definitely Nowhere Man!
A & B--We've had a Hard Day's Night. B--Help, I need somebody. A--But I sure don't Wanna Hold Your Hand.
B--If We Can't Work It Out and Come Together with a song, I'm going to join a Lonely Hearts Club Band,
A & B--We need to stop this Helter Skelter and Get Back where we belong, co-writing...

(Chorus)
A--Uh B --Oh
A & B...we're co-wronging...
A--Tryin' to write songs with you is definitely puttin' the hurt on my career... (B--Career?)
A & B --Cooperating, it's a beautiful thing. B--And you could start by getting your mind on music and off of the cleanin' lady's brassiere.
A & B--The two of us are supposed to be pros, we're s'pposed to be co-wo-songing,
A & B--We ain't co-wri-e-i-e-i-e-i-e-iting, we're co-wronging.

(bridge)
A--How's about you and me call a truce?
B--How's about I kick you in your big caboose?
A--How many times can I accept an excuse, when you haven't got a tune?
B--Oh, yeah? How'd you like a free trip to the moon?
A--Oh yeah? B--Oh, yeah!
A--Oh No!
B--Hey, "Mr. Music Row", if this don't get settled, one of us has to go...

(verse)
A--Man, you are so nuts, it's a wonder you haven't been eaten by a Nashville squirrel.
B--Well if songwritin' was fightin' I'd have to say you still got a punch like a third grade girl.
A--If you'd spend less time whining about me and more time giving this thing a whirl,
A & B--We might make some progress here actually co-writing,

(chorus)
A & B--BUT... We're co-wronging...
A--I'm STILL waiting for you to come up with at least one good I-dear...
A & B Cooperating, it's a beautiful thing, B--Why don't you pick up that pencil and put down that beer?
A & B--Bouncing thoughts offa each other's heads, the deepest A--philosophical, B--theological,
A--psychological, B--cosmological A & B--concepts a' ping-ponging,
A & B--We ain't co-wri-e-i-e-i-e-i-e-iting, we're co-wronging.
A & B--We ain't co-wri-e-i-e-i-e-i-e-iting, we're co-wronging.

awww heck yeah guys, been there, dueling egos. "I don't care who you are thats funny right there" It's catchy, and anybody who has ever written with somebody else knows the feelings, nice picking and beat, the tempo is right, hey y'all are just some crusty good ol' boys havin' a good time and making good music. I like it, it made me laugh. thanks for that.

Its the most Entertaining thing I've heard on Broadjam
