Part of the Game

Story Behind The Song

this is my response to the inane nonsense that makes up the majority of comments submitted on the social networking sites such as Facebook. I just don't care what you had for breakfast or that you are about to take pooch for a walk! Although I have a Fb account I rarely go there because of the mindlessness of it. I am considering opting out. Having said that, for some people it is, perhaps, their best way to communicate with their family & friends...maybe I'm not rigorous enough in my selective process of whose submissions I want to view. I guess it's the manipulativeness of the comments that I object to the most. Anyway, I hope this song captures adequately how I feel about the topic.

Song Description

the names of the websites are actually a giveaway...like "Tweet" & Twitter"... aren't these derogatory terms for how humans view what birds (and birdbrains) say to each other? would it not be presumptuous, therefore, to expect anything of value being forwarded... while social networks have had a liberating effect upon the average user, they have also exposed us to all the trivial nonsense that passes through people's heads on a daily basis! it's rather like looking at mountains of shredded government memos...

Lyrics

[verse 1]
windowpane fantasies virtual harmonies
share with your friends what your doing at home
substitute company hacking your enemy
glued to the screen while you talk on the phone

[chorus]
being left out of the party's a shame
everyone wants to be part of the game...
and so we're...

[verse 2]
victims of circumstance we were just holding hands
newspapers magazines have to be sold
cards full of sentiment last will & testament
yesterday's memories
it's a drag being old

[bridge]
and so you...
surf while you drink your tea
pay no mind to gravity
is the world that's in front of you
real or not?

[verse 3]
staying connected while feeling rejected
social networking & baring your soul
you can tweet & you can twitter
you can be sweet & be bitter
lost in a society
spinning out of control

[coda]
and after all
all that really matters is
you're part of the game
