Story Behind The Song
i am age 58; my sister is 8 years older than me. I guess we are so-called 'baby boomers'...we have often discussed the prognosis for the planet and we agree that we are the final generation who are to have a decent life.
there are many references to other songs and literature in this piece...
"resistance is futile" is a phrase that was popular among 'trekkies'...from Star Treks's 'The Borg'...
Pieter Brueghel the Elder painted 'The Triumph of Death' which showed that no matter who you are or what is your station in life, death is inescapable...
the phrase "schools no longer teach" is a nod to Frank Zappa from his song "Hungry Freaks, Daddy"...
...and, of course, John Milton's "Paradise Lost"...
if you find any more you can let me know!
P.S. Oh Yes!, I almost forgot...The Bible
Song Description
this song paints the grim picture of future life on this planet starting next week/year/decade?...or has it already begun?...for some, no doubt it has...
those of my age have had the dubious privilege of having witnessed one of the turning point of this planet's history...the irreparable damage done by our species will be our undoing...and we may well take everything else with us...goodnight!

Lyrics
baby boomers cold war survivors
drug culture refugees
from X-generation to the next generation
now heading for annihilation
the final struggle is fast approaching
it is futile to resist
you might be someone or you might be no-one
but you will still be on the list
we were the last ones to breathe freely
we were the last ones to have enough to eat
we were the last to drink fresh water
we were the Last Ones in Eden
we were the Last Ones in Eden
the streets are raging hope is fading
redemption out of reach
rampant corruption social destruction
where schools no longer teach
we were the last ones to see justice
we were the last ones to be free
we were the last ones to have a fighting chance
we were the Last Ones in Eden we were the Last Ones in Eden
so what do we tell our children?
now that their future has been cursed
smeared by our legacy heirs to duplicity
and a life that goes from bad to worse
instrumental
running scared/keep your head/on the run/play for dead
acid rain/revolution/time is up/there's no solution
when all is over
and this paradise is lost for evermore
will there be anyone to see the ruins of all that went before?
baby boomers, cold war survivors, drug culture refugees
from X-generation to the next generation
now heading for annihilation
we were the last ones with a future we were the visionary few
we were the last ones with a conscience
we were the Last Ones in Eden
we were the Last Ones in Eden
we were the Last Ones in Eden
