Story Behind The Song
having had two 'near-death experiences' has made me think about what will happen to me when the inevitable comes to pass...contrary to most people's morbid concept of death, i view it as a natural and unavoidable event; nothing more or less...
as i age and the closer to that event i become, i like to document my own feelings about it and try to help others to feel better and accept it.
having no religious baggage also helps...i am therefore free to enjoy a natural death without fear...
although a very religious man, William Blake was said to have been singing a hymn on his death-bed...so I guess believing in heaven may help...but then again he was just plainly insane!

Lyrics
the night is so dark now
so dark i can hardly see
there are no angels
looking down on me
just an empty path
and a robe of mystery
I ask for nothing
and nothing is where i'll be
it's turning cold now
so cold my hands are numb
no one to guide me
or turn me round on the road i'm on
just resignation
and an end to the journey begun
I ask for nothing
and that's just what I'll become
nothing to look for
and nothing at all to find
no need to pack your bags
cuz it's just a waste of time
the differences we have had
of what's yours and what is mine
I ask for nothing
now i'll leave it all behind
there's something familiar
but there's nothing at all to fear
it's like I'm walking back again
on the path/road that brought me here
and now there is silence
and a peace that we all shall know
no need for salvation
cuz there is no hell below
just a transformation
back into the earth I'll flow
I ask for nothing
and now i am ready to go
