Lyrics
That Which Blooms in Shadow
Copyright © 2025 David Baumgarten
A flower bloomed
where no eyes turned,
calling me in a voice
too soft for sound --
(Is anyone there?)
Colder than silence
is a loneliness in the crowd--
where shadows fold into mine
and slowly
erase my edges.
Smiling as I pass,
nodding as I sink--
the truest me remains
abandoned,
unseen.
I don't need you all
Just one to speak back the
Language
Of my soul.
I "should I then change?"
In drifting leaves the answer:
"Don't fade.
Don't fade."
So I walk,
though streets unseen--
like a flame in dusk,
tending the quiet of an endless source.
One day, you may
see this light--but by then I may be gone
...and say you might:
"I know you."
"I see you."
Until then, I bloom in shadow,
as myself.
Or from a bulb may rise again.
Or from a bulb may rise again.
