Song Description
We all have musical heroes. The thought of getting together and sitting across from a legendary musician and playing music with them motivates this new song by Bob Stump.
The dream of a young boy inspired by the sound of traditional music. Life takes an unfortunate turn for his hero as the lyric explains "the sun has set on his mandolin" Perhaps Bob is referencing Bill Monroe ? Although he never does get to meet his hero he has faith that in the afterlife the thought of an impromptu jam with him is still in the realm of possibility. When the moment comes they "play Amazing Grace and Ragtime Annie too" along with other traditional and folk song references. Finally the angel band joins in to accompany the two friends. The outro of the song takes off in double time with a
flat picking instrumental that tips the hat and pays homage to the traditional music
masters that have gone before us and left a great musical legacy and inspiration.

Lyrics
They Can Join In Too
©2018 Bob Stump
When I hear his voice on the radio
or see him on a video
It takes me to a place I never want to leave
Just feels like home to me
I used to dream we were best of friends
that I played guitar in the band with him
we made it big on the hit parade
I was just a kid ,it was just pretend
We played Amazing Grace, Ragtime Annie too
Whiskey Rye Whiskey and the old Kentucky Waltz
he'd say, play a song for me boy and I'll play one for you
and tell all your friends they can join in to
Now the man is gone but his songs remain
on the air and in the hall's of fame
they said he was strong right up till the end
but the sun had set on his mandolin
I sing this song to remember him
and think of him as my old friend
and if I'm lucky in the end
we'll meet someday and it won't be just pretend
We'll sing
Amazing Grace and It's all Over Now Baby Blue
Will the circle be unbroken and Hank's Cheat'n Heart
he'll say play a song for me boy and I'll play one for you
and tell the angel band they can join in too
