Weston James Bio
WESTON JAMES BIO
"...Neil Young meets Bruce Springsteen meets Country Music ... an excellent alternative to today's cookie cutter Country." - Dixie McCorkle, Triple Strand Productions Country Radio.
Somewhere between "hick and hi-rise", or Country with an "edge" is how Weston James describes his music when asked. Born in Boston and raised in the South, he has always had a love for both the city and country ways of life. His musical leanings, while Country at heart, are also heavily influenced by other genres like rock and alternative rock and have been woven deep into the fabric of his music. From Johnny Cash and Merle haggard, to Elvis, to U2 and even Prince, he has always loved all types of music. It is the mix of both his life experiences and his widely varied musical influences that shaped his own style and the result is a sound that covers a wide spectrum of crossover appeal.
After serving over eleven years as an Officer in the US Army, he landed in New York City where he says his own music was born, and also where his songwriting career began. It wasn't long however before he realized that something had turned on the "songwriting" switch inside him and with the encouragement of those that heard his music, he decided to move to Nashville, TN so he could learn the craft of songwriting and pursue music as his profession. In less than a year after his arrival in Music City, Wes released his debut CD entitled, "Country & Weston." He says that the CD is a little rock, a lot of Country, but 100% all Weston.
He is a frequent performer at many of the Writers' Nights at various clubs around Nashville and also some of the live music venues in New York.
Weston James is a BMI affiliated songwriter, and a member of both the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) and the Country Music Association (CMA).
