YEYO of The DEY bio
Born in Cupey, Puerto Rico of Cuban Father and Puerto Rican mother, the MC, writer and producer popularly known as Yeyo, is setting his mark in the world while creating the very best of Latin urban music. Yeyo was the founder and one of three members of one of the first Puerto Rican hip hop groups The Shanghai Assassinz. In 1999, he made history with the production and release of the groups first single Viequez. The song was inspired and dedicated to the struggle that existed between Puerto Rico and the US Navy over military controlled land. In 2001 he produced and recorded the theme song for the award winning Puerto Rican movie 12 Horas. The need for taking his craft to another level made him move to Miami in 2003 where he graduated top of his class in Audio Engineering. In 2004 Yeyo masterminded La Conekta, a hip hop compilation that united the best Latino MCs from around the globe. 2005 was a life-changing year, he started his company The Art of Sound Group Inc. and built a recording facility where he is producing and recording new and established artists under his imprint. In that same year he signed a Deal with Epic records for his group **The DEY** along with his partners Divine and Elan and also penned a publishing deal with Sony/ATV. In 2007 he co-wrote and appeared in the World Wide Pop Smash "Walk Away" with Paula DeAnda which was at #4 in the World for 28 weeks got him a '08 ASCAP award for most played Pop record of 2007. In 2008 he toured across the United States and Asia with **The DEY**, their single "Give you the World" reached #1 in the MTV charts. They were the first to be awarded MTV's Discover & Download and MTV Tr3s' Descubre & Download simultaneously, were featured on MTV's Times Square Studios Billboards. He was featured in Locos por Juana's single/video "Tu sabes muy bien (La Nalga)" which earned him a '09 Grammy nomination, was on billboards all across the US, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Phillipines, Singapore,Vietnam, was part of the first pop music show in the history of Vietnam, performed in a Mother's Day Special for NBC, performed on Showtime at the Apollo, Sabado Gigante, Despierta America, Escandalo TV, MiTRL, Sean Kingstons Sweet 18 in Ocho Rios, Jamaica for MTV.
YEYO has worked in the studio with Timbaland, Stargate, Swizz Beats, Trackmasters, JR. Rotem, Akon, Fernando Garibai, Florida, José Feliciano, AB Quintanilla, Red One, Danger, Sean Kingston, Colby Odonis, Sade, Kymani Marley, Notch, amongst others. Along with his team of producers, he did the official 15 year anniversary of the Macarena with Los del Rio. He has just released his first solo project the 'Life of a Warrior' (EP) which will open the way for his Spanish and English language albums that are scheduled to drop late 2010. His first single "Please DJ" Is currently at #3 in the German Urban charts and has been in the top 10 for 6 weeks. The video for the single premiers on March 15th, 2010 in MTV Tr3s and soon after on all major networks across the globe. He will be featured in AB Quintanillas 2nd single "Mentirosa" off his up coming album The AB Quintanilla Allstars. He is currently writing and producing for Major artists for both Latin and US markets. YEYO is a proven award wining writer / producer in both English and Spanish as well as an experienced audio engineer.
