Story Behind The Song
Tribute to a Bantam, Connecticut USA landmark in to 1920's called the "Music Box" and in later years called "Beverly's"... large dance hall on a lake with live music... My band played there in the 1980-90's along with other local/famous bands as named in the song.
Song Description
Before the days of smartphones and social media folks in their 20's enjoyed dance halls with live music... and showed up in masses,,, my band played in that era 1980-90's... the song depicts an actual club called Beverly's on Bantam Lake in Connecticut, USA where live music was on almost every night, the crowds were huge, the fun was off the charts.... this song captures the picture of the times, and shouts out to some fellow bands of the day that performed there, NRBQ, B. Willie Smith, Linda and the Love Letters, Eight to the Bar, and my band The Summertime Blues Band. "Get there early or wait in line" was the truth!!!

Verse 1
There was a big red barn at the lakeside way back when
where all us kids had a party gathering.
Guys and gals would move their feet
the floor was bouncing to the beat
thinking we might shake straight into the lake tonight.
Chorus
Back then, we'd crowd in, Beverly's jumped the night
Back when with my friends, Beverly's did it right
Grab your date for dancing time
get there early or wait in line
The beer was cold, and all you could hold
and the stories told won't ever get old
Verse 2
Get out of your beer-stool the dance floor ain't that far
just turn around there's eight to the other bar
every night a swinging ride
with music live and sanctified
thinking we might shake straight into the lake tonight
Chorus
Back then, we'd crowd in, Beverly's jumped the night
Back when with my friends, Beverly's did it right
Grab your date for dancing time
get there early or wait in line
The beer was cold, and all you could hold
and the stories told won't ever get old
Bridge
Well F-U-N spelled NRBQ
Linda's letters had a good time too
swinging rock as loud as they could try
from a stage as high as everyone inside
Verse 3
Singin' bout the girl who loved to huckle-buck
Walk right in walk right out... say what?
B Willie Smith might tap your shoes but
there ain't no cure for the Summertime Blues
thinking we might shake straight into the lake tonight
Chorus Finale
Back then, we'd crowd in, Beverly's jumped the night
Back when with my friends, Beverly's did it right
grab your date for dancing time
get there early or wait in line
shots and beers would get you tight
Bobby and Boogsie breaking up a fight
The beer was cold, and all you could hold
and the stories told.... won't ever.... get old
won't ever get old
won't ever get old
won't ever get ) - heeey yaaayy oh
