A Mile In My Shoes

Story Behind The Song

As an abuse survivor, there are things you go through. It took time to unwravel all the emotional wounds, the lies that were told to me, the challenges it created with me as a person, and to heal. After many years, the healing truly set in. I realized, as a Christian, how the devil will often use people to hurt us. He will lie to us, make us feel awful about ourselves, create disbelief in our own hearts, and he revels in that. But, with God, he helped heal my mind. He helped me to know that all those things were not the truth, but a prison I was put in. But, now I am free. It is a song not just to the ones who cause pain, but the ultimate showdown to the one who creates the chaos and pain, that he is not worthy, not strong, and through my faith, I found healing. Those who caused me pain, could never take a step, never mind "A Mile In My Shoes".

Song Description

A song of healing from trauma or pain. Emotional, uplifting, strength and courage to be much more than what those who hurt you try to tear you down to be. The staccato verses that move to a smooth flowing verse accompanied with a piano that brings the emotion and lyrics together.

Lyrics

A Mile In My Shoes By PJ Bennett (Pamela Jean Bennett)

I Thought you mattered but you don't'
You see I
Thought they couldn't see me but the light shined through me
Illuminating the world around me, you
Had me convinced, you had me convinced
Every lie you whispered penetrated my mind
Every awful thing you said was just a lie
Every now and then I'm thankful that I
Escaped these prison walls I was held by

Every moment I held my breath why
Did I wait so long
Why did I wait,
Why did I wait

Now I'm shakin' off the dust of who I am
Now I dance in the rain
And I don't give a damn oh whoah
Oh
I kicked the shoes I walked a million miles in
If you wanna try 'em on
I double dare you to
Let's see if you can walk
A simple little mile in my shoes

It's kind of funny when I think about the moment
When I realized you're nothing but a blip
For a second on a clock that's timeless
All those years I wasted,
I wasted.

Every moment I held my breath why
Did I wait so long
Why did I wait
Why did I wait

Now I'm Shakin' off the dust of who I am
Now I dance in the rain
And I don't give a damn
Oh, oh
I kicked off the shoes
I walked a million miles in
If you wanna try 'em on
I double dare you to
Go ahead and walk a mile
I dare you
I dare you to.

Now you'll hear my name
'Bout the girl, who danced, in the rain
The sun shone and rainbows were made
She took the world, by storm, you'll say

Now I'll never hold my breath again
No I'll never wait so long
so long
Those days are gone

I'm shakin' off the dust of who I am
Now I dance in the rain
And I don't give a damn
Oh No No

I kicked off the shoes I walked a million miles in
If you wanna try them on
I double dare you to

Cuz I know you
You couldn't walk a mile
In My shoes
