Story Behind The Song
I was deeply holding on to someone I should have let go to. I was also working on an album that most of the songs in, were about him or us or our time together. Difficult to get over someone when you're busy recording love songs. This song was the last and was written in the final week of mixing of everything else and recorded instantly.
Song Description
"Songs are like tattoos" Joni Mitchel said. In writing them we mark our (and hopefully other people's) consciousness with a certain feeling and idea. Sometimes when this feeling or idea is painful, writing it down can be healing. And releasing songs, There's nothing more healing than that in the sense of getting rid of old baggage.

Lyrics
How can I sing to you my loveless lover?
I'll change your name.
How can I sing to you my loveless lover?
I'll sing of pain.
Songs of pain and of waiting.
Waiting to sing to you again.
Like a snake that sheds his skin, I'll shed these songs, I'll shed my sins.
I'll slither on without tattoos, without these pains I've pained for you.
