Story Behind The Song
The story of the admission by th ecatholic church that the disciple, Mary Magdelene, had been deliberately cast as the prostitute mentioned in the gospels. The original reason was the jealousy of individual disciples and was perpetuated by the church for nearly two thousand years. Even today, many people do not know that the church admitted continuing a great injustice. It left two models for women. Mary, a mother without sexuality, or Mary, a prostitute.
Song Description
It describes how Mary was really a devoted and much loved disciple of Jesus. How jealousy maligned her contribution and legacy. It sings of the sadness of the story and how the church continued this deceipt in their betrayal of Mary for centuries. There was an eventual revelation by the church, but it seemed muted in relation to the lie and it's legacy for women.

Lyrics
? Mary Magdelene?
Mary Magdelene, Mary Magdene
Mary Magdelene, so dear
Mary Magdelene, Mary Magdelene
Mary Magdelene, so dear.
It has been heresy for you and me
how Mary Magdelene was bad.
No promiscuity
money for trade you see
just their ability
to make her sad.
Mary Magdelene, Mary Magdelene,
Mary Magdelene, so dear
Mary Magdelene, Mary Magdelene,
Mary Magdelene, so dear
An equal follower
deep trust conveyed in her
Mary Magdelene was loved.
There was humility
that everyone could see
igniting jealousy
to one he loved
Jesus shared thoughts and care
remaining unaware
how Mary Magdelene was left unloved.
So close to him was she
more than some men could be
with their mendacity
for she was loved
Mary Magdelene, Mary Magdene
Mary Magdelene, so sad
Mary Magdelene, Mary Magdelene
Mary Magdelene, so sad.
We have all come to burn
for men will never learn
that they desire just what they fear.
In Mary Magdelene, their need to inflict pain
means only they remain as insincere.
Her legacy, opaque
so most of us will make
the very same mistake, not loving her.
No one can truly gauge
how much they did renege
the trust that Jesus gave by what they did infer
Two thousand grains of sand
of years to understand
that men were underhand
on who she was
Disciples, close to him
repainted with their sin
Repeat.
