The Devil Takes

Story Behind The Song

Someone, seemingly friendly, funny, besotted with you, draws you in deep, reveals himself to be dangerous, violent, explosive.

Song Description

This devil hid his horns and hooves away, but explosively used his strength, assaults, and interrogation to control by fear, threats, intimidation and violence. The only way out was him finally falling out of obsessionof me and wanting a future life, not a jail sentance for violence and murder.

Lyrics

Slipped into darkness hardly known, so easy, so easy, so easy,
and my angels newly grown, must leave me, must leave me, must leave me.
Just his touch can turn to blue, tattoo you, tattoo you, tattoo you,
and your blood runs cold right through, right through you, right through you, right through you,

A devil takes my world and soul, he'll try to take them where he goes,
he came in camouflage one day, hid his horns and hooves away.

Might he lash out suddenly, you fear it, you fear it, you fear it,
ups his price dramatically, you hear it, you hear it, you hear it,
traps are springing all around, around us, around us, around us,
worst day in lives we found, confounds us, confounds us, confounds us.

A devil takes my world and soul, he'll try to take them where he goes,
he came in camouflage one day, hid his horns and hooves away.

New lives apart are very stark, are so stark, are so stark,
house hawks swoop, peck you so sharp, peck so sharp, peck so sharp, peck so sharp,
in the day, and when its dark, its so dark, its so dark, its so dark,
they cover up, and hide their marks, hide all marks, hide all marks, hide all marks.

A devil takes my world and soul, he'll try to take them where he goes,
he came in camouflage one day, hid his horns and hooves away.

A wall, a weapon you might see, chloroform me, chloroform me
a plate, a fist so clinically, will hit me, will hit me, will hit me
you can have a split nose too, so easy, so easy, so easy,
be a punch bag in the hills, so breezy, so breezy, so breezy, so breezy.

A devil takes my world and soul, he'll try to take them where he goes,
he came in camouflage one day, hid his horns and hooves away.

Summers have come and summers waned, in handfuls, in handfuls, in handfuls,
when you are here then I am saved, so thankful, so thankful, so thankful,
just soft prayers when we join wings, so sweetly, so sweetly, so sweetly
and we fly through everything, so easy, so easy, so easy.

Horns and hooves will flee away,
hawks have had their evil day,
someone asks when they will pay,
atonement waits, is here to stay.
