Story Behind The Song
A Vietnamese friend of mine had a 22-year-old son who became very depressed after his girlfriend broke up with him in Japan. He committed suicide, leaving his mother and many others heartbroken. For several months, my friend tried to sort things out. One day, I asked her to write down her thoughts and e-mail them to me. I moved a few words around, made a few rhymes, and transformed her thoughts into this song.

Lyrics
I open my eyes
The dawn is breaking
My heart is aching
You were always so kind
Always so kind
And during the day
As I am working
My heart is jerking
You're filling my mind
Filling my mind
In the middle of the day,
I start to ponder
My mind will wander
I'm thinking of you
Still thinking of you
In the afternoon,
I wake from napping
To thunder clapping
It all went so wrong
All went so wrong
In the middle of the night,
I wake from a bad dream
Oh, such a sad dream
You were saying 'So long'
Saying 'So long'
Later in the evening,
Day is behind me
The demons find me
I'm calling for you
Calling for you
I see you everywhere
In those you loved so much
In every heart you touched
In twenty-two years
Twenty-two years
And everyone wonders
Why did you go now?
Explain it somehow?
I've lost count of the tears
Lost count of the tears
Did you know how much I love you?
My teeth are grinding
The pain is blinding
Wish I'd been with you then
Been with you then
Now I'll try to carry on
To keep your candle burning
Do you know how I'm yearning?
To see you again
See you again
