I lived in Argentina for two years. One day I was singing the hymn ?Jesus Savior Pilot Me? in spanish when a certain line struck me funny. ?Mi timon es Tu amor? which literally translated is ?Your love is my rudder.? It makes sense and sounds fine in Spanish, but in english it?s kind of absurd. So naturally, I took it as a challenge to write a song with the word ?rudder? as the hook. An interesting bit of trivia: ?Mr. Top Hat Melton? in the song refers to Greg Melton who was my roommate at the time. Greg had mentioned once that he likes top hats. - Joshua Dutton
