There Is None Like You

Story Behind The Song

I wrote this song shortly after my Dad died of cancer in December 2009 - hardly an outpouring of grief, more an expression of praise to God, of serenity and acceptance as I reflected how God had orchestrated the last few months of Dad's life, giving us as a family those much needed opportunities to spend time together and express our love especially to Dad, to say those words t him before he died. I think the key lines here, the ones which summarise these feelings and which I am the most pleased with, are the lines "I watch you conduct the days So they become symphonies of praise." I realised those lines could be expressed to Dad as well as to God - to God for masterfully watching over those precious days and creating the opportunites when they most mattered, and to Dad for the way he conducted himself in the progression of his illness and found that place of calm serenity which translated to me. He knew where he was going because of his hope in God, and he was satisfied with his earthly work and the family he was leaving behind. I think of those days more with fondness and thankfulness than with grief.

Song Description

I wanted this song to be the first to represent me on Broadjam because it's a straightforward gospel ballad - simple in its heartfelt honest expression, and stripped back in its instrumentation. It carries so much of my heart, relates to a very personal and meaningful event, and is very light in its production - just my piano-playing and my unadorned lead vocal, with the lightest of touches from my producer who suggested my adding the light synth pad melodic dressing in the last stanza.

Lyrics

I want to thank you for all you are;
I want to thank you for all you do.
I'm so grateful;
There is none like you.
The grace you give me
In times of need,
The strength you give me
As I walk through -
I'm so thankful.
There is none like you.

You are masterful,
Indwelling and in command;
I watch you conduct the days
So they become symphonies of praise.
I want to tell you you're wonderful;
I want to tell you you're beautiful
And I love you -
There is none like you.

I want to thank you for all you are;
I want to thank you for all you do.
I'm so grateful;
There is none like you.
The joy you give me
Though night draws in,
The peace you give me -
A river running through!
There is none like you.

You are masterful,
Enduring and in command;
I watch you conduct the days
So they become symphonies of praise.
And I want to tell you
That you're wonderful;
I want to tell you
That you're beautiful
And I love you -
There is none like you.
And I love you -
There is none like you.
