Story Behind The Song
I was coming back from my sister's with the 3 boys (single mom) and we had an old ford econoline camper van that had the engine between the seats and a great big flat area on top that you could put things on. I thought to myself, "I wonder if I could write a song?" I grabbed, I think, a paper towel and a pencil out of my purse, (or it might have been one of the boy's crayons from the cupboard) and wrote the words that came to me while I was driving back to Rhode Island from Connecticut. I thought it was really stupid and corney but I wrote down some notes when I got home and learned the song. I asked if I could sing it at the prayer meeting I went to on Tuesday and they let me, and someone came up to me and said they cried when I sang it. This was the encouragement I needed to try to write more songs. I also had had a terrible time understanding judgement and hell and such since I was a new Christian. I kept asking Him, (Jesus) at that time in my life, to explain stuff to me and help me to understand. I certainly don't or can't understand all of the mysteries of God, but I would gain understanding of things as I would ask Him.

Lyrics
PROMISE YOU’LL NEVER LEAVE ME
Words and Music by JOANNA
Oh Jesus how I love you, you’re with me every hour.
You fill me with your goodness, and with your awesome power.
I wake each day to find that you are still here by my side.
You understand my every thought, in you I can confide.
Oh Jesus, oh Jesus, you are so good to me.
Without you I am nothing, promise you’ll never leave me.
Why don’t they understand Lord, you love them more than we.
You came not to condemn us, won’t they ever see?
I pray Lord that you save them all, not lifting up just some.
You say you keep your promises, and judgment day will come.
Oh Jesus, oh Jesus, you are so good to me.
Without you I am nothing, promise you’ll never leave me.
Oh Jesus, oh Jesus, you are so good to me.
Without you I am nothing, promise you’ll never leave me.
