Song Description
The title refers to a 'thought experiment' postulated by Austrian physicist Erwin Schr¶dinger in 1935, wherein a cat in a closed box is both alive and dead simultaneously (until such a time as the box is opened and one or other state becomes 'true'). The song was written after seeing news of a child who went missing, presumed abducted or murdered. That child was, in the public's eye, and in the minds of the parents, both alive and dead. The song is told from the point of view of a father, watching over his sleeping child and reflecting on the abduction/murder.
