Story Behind The Song

My grandmother was a singer in the 1940's and every now and then I would hear music that reminded me of her. The style of lyrics, and mood, were touching and real. I was listening to a song one day and I felt God impress me to sit down at the keys and write. I had no idea what would come out, because I hadn't been able to play the piano due to my movement disorder. With a slow tempo, a chord struck. Then another, and then another. I hit record to just sing what came to heart, and this song poured out. It reminded me of my 70's childhood, and the Barbara Streisand feel, mixed with a 1940's intention and lyrics. Even though I struggled to play the piano, it felt important to keep my track in the recording instead of hiring someone to track this song for me. It felt imperfect, just like the love and lyrics and intent of the song. The imperfections are real, honest, and reflect everything I felt in the moments of writing and recording. It was a true blessing to play, when my fingers can barely move to play an instrument. "Yesterday" is a true testiment of loving through the imperfect moments, and reconcilliation.

I think of all the ways
You used to say
Love you

I remember when
Life was so grand
Our love was so new

Time has taken it's toll
It's just too much
And we've been broken

Maybe we can try once more
And make our words
Worth words to be spoken

Remind me again
How you used to be
Make me once more long for your touch

And how your kiss
Made me weak in the knees
Oh Darlin', I miss you so much

Don't walk away
Hold me and love me once more
Love me
Like
Yesterday

Oh your sweet caress
Warm whispers of
Your affections

Fill me to the top
Elate my heart
With your devotions

Oh we still have time
To make this right
As rain

Will you try once more
I need you to understand
How I adore you

Remind me again
How it used to be
I oh so long for your touch

How your kiss
Makes me weak in the knees
Oh Darlin'
I miss you so much

Don't walk away
Hold me and love me once more

Love me
Like
Yesterday.
