Story Behind The Song
An actor is reviewing his lot .... He wants success but despite all his chiseled looks and perfect skin, all he can manage is a television commercial for a tin of beans. The casting director who poses questions about his life is considering him as a commodity - He in turn is determined to stick with it and keep climbing up the greasy pole whoever it belongs to. W wanted to try to create a sophisticated sound with vibraphones, a deep jazz bass, brush drums and lots of female backing - we think he achieved that.

Lyrics
AN ACTOR'S LIFE ( W L COTTERELL 2013 )
She takes one look at me and tells me I'm her man
She says I've got the right build and I measure up to the plan
There's a few more things before she signs the dotted line
But given that, everything should work out fine
She wants to know if I can hold a knife and fork
She wants to know if I've have ever been to New York.
She wants to see me in the daytime, she wants to see me at night
She says that if I look good everything will be alright
So this is it - I 've finally landed a part
This is it, I can finally give for my art
The only trouble is its not exactly written for James Dean ...
It's a tv commercial selling a can of beans.
Cars, beer, slimming aids - I 'll do anything for money just as long as its well paid
Jeans, tyres, sun kissed shades - eventually I'll get there and perform on my own stage.
Luveydom is all very well but it doesn't always pay the rent.
You hope and pray that every day the perfect script will be sent.
You battle through the casting calls, your energy will pall
But you live in hope that one day stardom calls.
Health food, yoghurts, luxury cars - it's my way of getting on the stairway to the stars
Tea, insurance and minute steak - I ' m only doing this 'till I get my lucky break.
So an actor's life has its up and downs
But I don't think I'm ready to send in the clowns
There's a part out there with my name written loud and proud
I just need some way of making me stand out from the crowd.
Cars, beer, slimming aids - I 'll do anything for money just as long as its well paid
Jeans, tyres, sun kissed shades - eventually I'll get there and perform on my own stage.
