Connected

Story Behind The Song

Just another song of hope and connection. I wanted to be more connected to my sons; had a fear of drifting away from them. Out of that came the realization that I yearned for a more inclusive 'connection'... of everyone. This song became a favorite of a childhood friend who passed a few months after he told me how much it meant to him. At that point, it became his song as much as it was my 2 sons'. Then, it was the top requested song of my live streams starting in 2020. It became our special song and the one that I played for the viewers each and every Sunday during the stream. So... the song, like the crowd at in the last verse, grows and will, hopefully, continue to do so

Lyrics

It was the song of my childhood
It was the song of the crowd
Never heard it, wasn't listening
Now it's playing so loud

And I think it needs singers
And I think it needs voices
And I know that my life comes down
To two or three choices

So I pick up the pen
And I let go the guns
I plug in my Fender
And I thought of my sons

And I am connected
I am connected
A bit imperfected
But I am connected

And I will never be lonely again
I will never be lonely again
My heart will never be homeless
I'll be ok just as long as
My face will never be nameless
Because you feel just the same as
I do
I am connected

Inside and old man
There's a small bit of youth
And every lie that I've heard
Had just a small bit of truth
My pockets are empty
But my mind just as clear
And the ones that I hurt now
Are the ones I hold dear

And I am connected
I am connected
A bit imperfected
But I'm still connected

And I will never be lonely again
I will never be lonely again
My heart will never be homeless
I'll be ok just as long as
My face will never be nameless
Because you feel just the same as
I do
I am connected

There's a song in the crowd
And it's gone on for days
We're all standing together
And our hands are all raised

And I think I hear singers
I could swear I hear voices
I know that our lives come down
To just two or three choices

And we are connected
We are connected
We're still imperfected
But we are connected

And we will never be lonely again
We will never be lonely again
Our hearts will never be homeless
We'll be ok just as long as
Our faces will never be nameless
Because you feel just the same as
I do
We are connected
