Story Behind The Song
When my dear sister-in-law, Veronica, passed away suddenly, we were all devastated. My brother asked me if I would sing at the memorial service. I sat down at the piano to rehearse an appropriate funereal song when this song poured out of me instead. I knew it was Veronica saying "I want my own song, dammit!" My sister-in-law was always one of my greatest fans and supporters. She loved my songs and encouraged me to write music and sing. She gave me this song so I dedicate it to her. (My brother had the lyrics engraved on her tombstone.)

Lyrics
Angels Must Spread Their Wings
Verse 1: I lift my voice to you
Please take a bow
And let your smile shine through
Wherever you are now
There's just one special thing
That you should know
If it were up to us
We'd never let you go
Chorus: But angels must spread their wings
Fly on to better things
Those of us left to cry
Wonder why
Those who are left behind
Know in our hearts and in our minds
We were lucky we knew you at all
Verse 2: In all our hearts you hold
A special place
One that is yours alone
You cannot be replaced
But in the quiet times
When I'm alone
It makes me smile to know
You found your way home.
Chorus: 'Cause angels must spread their wings
Fly on to better things
Those of us left to cry
Wonder why
Those who are left behind
Know in our hearts and in our minds
We were lucky that we knew you at all
We were so lucky we knew you at all
