Story Behind The Song
My sister has always struggled with mental illness. She is so quirky and funny and sweet. I thought about who would look out for her if she didn't have her family and friends. That lead to me thinking about those less fortunate, those who are easily overlooked because they are unconventional or mentally ill or abused. Bill Bentley really outdid himself on this arrangement, particularly with the background vocals.

Lyrics
Speak for Those
V1: Speak for those without a voice
Who seem to have no place
Abandoned early on by those
Sworn to keep them safe
Thrown into a world
That fails to see their special worth
They dream of life in heaven
Far from their hell on earth
Chorus:
Helpless, homeless, forgotten and lost
Lonely and desolate - they have all been tossed
Into a raging sea that seems to have no end
Speak for those who need a friend
V2: Seek to comfort souls
That along the way were broken
Who realized their quiet dreams
Were better left unspoken
Alone on a tightrope
Without a safety net
Their very basic needs
Are never ever met
Chorus
V3: Speak for those who wait alone
In darkness and in fear
Who cannot escape the sound
Of voices they may hear
Their frightened faces haunt me
Do they haunt you too?
Pray with them, stay with them
Help them make it through
