Brother From Another Mother

Story Behind The Song

I have some good male friends with whom I can never "cross the line" for fear that doing so would forever alter the relationship. Why rock the boat? In this case, one of those good friends was "between relationships" as was I and, him being a man and me being a woman, the suggestion arose that we provide each other with an outlet for pent-up sexual tension. Well, sometimes it's just too risky. I worked hard to find a way to include the word "libido" in the song (but I was determined to have it in there). Some of my followers wondered why I chose to include this song on the "Play Me Like A Saxophone" album. I admit it stands out, with its country flavoring, amongst the more light jazz/pop songs on that album. I don't really have an explanation for including it on that album - I kinda like mixing the genres up (but, of course, that may be why I can't answer the "What genre are you? question asked by every distribution channel).

Lyrics

Brother From Another Mother

V1: I don't have the answers
To all your silly questions
So why do you keep asking me
Like I should know?
You're a pain in the answer
If you pardon the expression
You'll never get a "yes" sir
I'll always say 'No"
'Cause I don't think of you in that way
That's black-and-white, baby, not grey

Chorus: You're like my brother
Oh, brother,
And I love you like no other
Like my best friend
Together till the end
But just a brother from another mother

V2: If you would only slow down
And stop with all your whining
I know that you would see
I'm just speaking the truth
This isn't meant to be a showdown
Just a friendly reminder
Of the revelation we made
Way back in our youth
When we said lust would only get in the way
And that's black-and-white, baby, not grey

Chorus

V3: Stay on this direction
And you're gonna torpedo
Any chance we can be
Friendly at all
You gotta listen to some sense now
Instead of your libido
Or our path forward
Will slow to a crawl
I don't like being this way
But it's black-and-white, baby, not grey

Chorus
