Story Behind The Song
Funny thing. One of my friends heard this song and commented, "You can't even grow a plant and you're talking about living on a farm and growing your own food?!" Well, that may be true now but I grew up in the Midwest and, until I embraced urban living, always had a garden so I could grow my own vegetables (with the help of others). This song's chorus, like so many, wrote itself and I just went along for the ride. Part of the song is autobiographical (my dad was a preacher and my mom a teacher) but most of it is fiction.

Lyrics
Country Living
Cho: I want to live in the country
I want to live off the land
I want to know that the food I eat
Is grown by my own hand
I want to lay in the meadow
I want to wade in the stream
When I fall asleep at night
I hope that I might dream
V1: I grew up in a small town
In the heartland
Those raised in the city
Probably wouldn't understand
My Mom was a teacher
So smart and so strong
Daddy was the preacher
Who taught us right from wrong
Our lives were ruled by the seasons
Winter, spring, summer, and fall
We learned to adapt
And to appreciate them all
Cho:
V2: Tending to the horses
Making sure they're alright
Sitting in front of the fire
On a cold, dark winter's night
Walking outside in the morning
Feeling the sun on my face
With nothing between me and the sky
But wide open space
There's no other place like it
No place i know
Where I can be myself
Let everything else go
Cho:
Tag: About a home on ten acres
Tucked back off the road
Where time stands so still
You just never feel old
Ooh, country living
That's the life for me
No looking over my shoulder
That's where I want to be
Cho:
