Story Behind The Song
Returning from a trip to California, the first part of this song came into my head ("Hello, it's me, telling you goodbye"). I had been playing around with my dulcimer before the trip and when I got home, I picked it up and, voila, the brief inspiration that had poked at me on my trip grew into this song. It felt good to play the dulcimer again and, when recording this with seasoned produced, Tommy Marolda, we experimented with an open tuning on my amazing Martin guitar just to give the song an even more Joni Mitchell-esque feel.

Lyrics
V1: Hello, it's me, telling you goodbye
It's me, telling you I really tried to see your side
But I ran out of tears to cry
And I can't afford what it takes to keep this love alive
I wish you well
I promise not to kiss and tell
Cho: Funny how you know when it's time to let go
How we say goodbye means as much as how we said hello
V2: Wish I could say I'm sorry but I'm not
You could have had me but instead you made me one of your have-nots
If it's true we get what we give
Then you'll be missing me as long as you live
I chose you
I'm only sorry you chose not to choose me too
Cho:
V3: Have you got anything to say?
If you do, better say it now 'cause I'm about to head on out
And I won't answer if you call
'Cause I'm pretty sure we've just about said it all
No hard feelings - no regrets
Maybe that's as good as it gets
Cho:
