Story Behind The Song
Just a silly song that found its way (inspired) into one of the musicals my brother, Scott, and I concocted called "Wedded Bliss." Kudos to Bill Bentley, who heard the vaudeville aspect embedded in the song and really played that up.

Lyrics
Marital State
V1: I'm thinking as I'm walking down the aisle
In my usual state of denial
Don't worry - things will be just fine
Don't hurry - just take your time
Marriage is just an institution
A very temporary solution
If it doesn't work out, we can always get out
But this one's gonna last
Not like those others in the past
Cho: I'm in a marital state and I better not wait
Let's make this thing official, all tidy and judicial
Accept this as our fate
Join me in a marital state
V2: I like to see that you finally came around to my point of view
To take me as your bride - cast out past woes aside
'Cause I just can't restrain myself with you
Though the order clearly said I had to
Cho:
Bridge: I don't take hostages - I take husbands
What I call love, they call dysfunction
V3: Take comfort in the fact that you will one day get used to
The role of my latest spouse
Current master of the house
You hold a special place in my heart
Right next to Barry, Billy, and Bart
Jimmy and Joey too and what's-his-name, the one before you
None of them left behind an address to find them
But no amount of beer or therapy
Will ever let them forget me - guarantee
Cho: I'm in a marital state and I better not wait
Your only destiny is intertwined with me
Accept this as our fate
Join me in a marital state
